Thank You TD Friends of the Environment

Newmarket – April 11, 2017

Staff of the 130 Davis Dr. TD Bank present a cheque for $7,400 to LSRCA Watershed Coordinator Christa Sharp and LSCF Executive Director Cheryl Taylor on April 11, 2017

Thanks to support from TD Friends of the Environment, a BioBlitz will take place on June 17, 2017.

A BioBlitz is a short intense team effort to discover as many different life forms as possible in one location. This often involves subject matter experts and the general public working together to identify as many species as possible in a specified time period. It is an opportunity for the community, youth in particular, to enhance their appreciation of the environment through exploration, engage in true citizen science and to learn about the natural history of the area. It also helps experts learn if biodiversity (all kinds of living organisms) are increasing or decreasing in the specific area. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority (LSRCA) has hosted Bioblitz’s for the past two years.

This year, it will be held at Sheppard’s Bush Conservation Area  and surrounding corridor, located in the Town of Aurora.

We will be engaging experts, community groups and local landowners in an 18 hour blitz to gather species information. While data is being gathered, there will be hikes and other events for the general public to participate in that will help them learn more about local eco-systems and how they can have a more positive environmental impact on the area. They will also have alot of fun!

See you there and thanks again to TD Friends of the Environment.
