Each year, through our enduring partnership with Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, the Foundation supports many environmental programs and projects that help support our vision of a cleaner and healthier Lake Simcoe watershed.

These programs and projects support our objectives:

  • Improve water quality and fish habitat in Lake Simcoe, its rivers and streams
  • Provide environmental education to Lake Simcoe watershed residents
  • Reduce invasive aquatic plant growth in Lake Simcoe, its rivers and streams
  • Protect and enhance our green spaces and wetlands
  • Develop partnerships that promote lake Simcoe watershed science, education and public awareness

Typically, this would include tree and shrub planting, stream bank restoration, fish habitat restoration, wildlife protection and the outdoor education of our children. These are executed  throughout our watershed. Occasionally, capital investments like the 2016 purchase of a new research boat for Lake Simcoe, the Hexagenia, are made.

At the beginning of each calendar year, staff at LSRCA prepare a list of priority programs and projects that need Foundation funding support. A Funding Request Template is submitted and reviewed by a small Foundation Board Committee against our Objectives, Mission and Vision. The ranked requests are then submitted to the Foundation Board for approval. Financial support of approved programs and projects will take place throughout the year and more than one intake may occur. At years end, LSRCA staff reports back to the Foundation Board regarding the overall  accomplishments of the program or project, it’s achievement against targets as well as the overall impact.
